After completing his bachelor study in plant sciences at WUR, Mathijs is currently pursuing a MSc degree in Plant biotechnology. He specializes in molecular plant breeding and pathology. In October 2025, he started his Master's research thesis at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology, studying the role of the exonuclease DPD1 in cytoplasmic inheritance.
